Miriam Seidel’s work is informed by her background in visual art, music and dance, leading to a range of projects from opera libretti to arts writing to fiction. Her short fiction has appeared in numerous literary magazines. Her dramatic works include the libretto for the opera Violet Fire, about the inventor Nikola Tesla, performed in Belgrade, New York and Philadelphia; and the libretto for the new opera Judgment of Midas, developed by American Opera Projects, with performances planned in Milwaukee, Berkeley and Ankara, Turkey.
She has written extensively on visual art and dance for journals including Art in America (as corresponding editor), the Philadelphia Inquirer, and Dance Magazine, as well as writing catalogue essays for many exhibits. She works as curator of the Galleries at the Gershman Y, a community arts and culture center in Philadelphia, and teaches writing in the graduate program at the University of the Arts. |
